What Makes You Feel Alive?
Mango Honey Greek Yogurt Smoothie Recipe
This past week had some exciting things happen when it comes to writing and cookbooks. I can’t tell y’all but just know ya girl is making moves.
On a down note, I had one person unsubscribe from my newsletter. It made me sad and I immediately started to question my path. But, I remembered I’m that girl and I’m not for everyone. This Substack has been a journey in finding my niche and schedule. I finally feel I’ve found the right combination of things to share and talk about. I know more subscribers, opportunities, money, etc. will come from consistency and hard work. I guess watching the attractiveness that is Travis Kelce talk about his football journey has been helpful. Lol.
Also, seeing my boo work hard for us and his new career has been helpful as well. I would be wildin if I didn’t say my sisters too. They have been killing it lately and I love their journey and encouragement. Big sis is a college professor! She just completed and received her Masters in Nursing. My little sis, has her own tax and bookkeeping business- Tax Therapy. She also does business and HR consulting. Blessings upon blessings for the fam!
As I was writing this, I came across Morgan Harper Nichols Instagram (artist and poet) where she shared that she had lost followers when she “unmasked” herself and talked/shared other things she is passionate about besides art and poetry.
I’m a firm believer that the Universe provides. Sometimes, that comes in the form of seeing someone else going through the same thing. It really hit home for me that we are all struggling with being seen but we got to keep moving forward on our path anyway.
Things that brought me joy
When the handyman came to our apartment and his face lit up when he saw that I was Black.
When Codie, my Walmart+ delivery driver tipped his cowboy hat to me. It made me chuckle as I’ve never had someone do that in person.
Crawfish from Cajun Persuasion. The crawfish were incredibly seasoned for them to come from a store. They have this incredible garlic butter sauce I want to share with y’all. I’m working on getting the recipe. I’ll keep y’all posted.
My kiddo’s growth in regards to speech and understanding. He’s really grown leaps and bounds and it makes me so proud.
Things that brought me negative vibes
Having to pay extra for rent because I decided to take extra precautions with sending my money on Venmo and the landlord made me pay for it
Someone hacking my Facebook account so now I’m locked out
Someone using my card on Facebook for $250 after I was locked out
Having to cancel my debit card and talk to my bank about disputing it, not once, not twice, not even three times but FIVE times.
A Beverage That Brightens My Day- Mango Honey Greek Yogurt Smoothie
With it getting hotter in New Orleans, I wanted to find a beverage that would be refreshing to enjoy. I was perusing a cookbook, Dishoom, and I came across a Mango Lassi. In India, this is a drink they enjoy on those hot days. It is similar to a smoothie but the main focus is the yogurt and spices whereas the main focus for a smoothie is the fruit with no spices.
It looked simple enough so I decided to give it a go. It’s one serving so I had no excuse not to make it. Y’all, when I tell you it is delicious, smooth, easy, and refreshing- I mean it. I can not stop thinking about it since I made it.
The version I made is more of a smoothie since it does not include any spices.
I used Dole canned mango slices in syrup. I used the syrup in the smoothie to add some sweetness.
For the Greek yogurt, I decided on The Greek Gods Honey yogurt. It’s full fat and has some added flavors that go perfectly with the mango.
Now, I know when it comes to blending things, taking out a whole blender to make one serving of a beverage is not the move. I invested in the Ninja blender that has the 16oz and 24oz blender cups. They come with lids to make it easy to blend then go. Totally worth the investment.
With my blender, it took me less than 5 minutes to make the smoothie and maybe another 5 minutes for clean up.
Honestly, y’all, this is a beverage that is good for kids, adults, whomever! You can always adjust the sweetness in terms of the syrup used and the recipe can be doubled if you want to make more than one at a time.
Please share in the comments what makes you feel alive. Is it a recipe, a book, a drink, or something else? We could all use more joy in our lives so spread the word!
Until next time,
