Everyone has their favorite tools to use in the kitchen that are a must. These staples might change and evolve over time but some are classics for a reason. Below, I have listed the tools in my kitchen I can not live without. However, you do not need fancy tools to do your best cooking, you are what makes your cooking best, the tools just help you along.Â
Pyrex glass liquid measuring cups
I used to be notorious for using dry measuring cups for my liquids and vice versa. I never really thought about the difference between the two. Let me explain-it’s all about the weight. Most bakers will tell you to measure your dry ingredients to get them exactly right as they weigh differently than wet ingredients. We always say 1 cup = 8oz but that is only for liquids. Hence, a liquid measuring cup will give you the wrong measurement for dry ingredients. However, some measuring cups can be used for both dry and wet. Â
Glass mixing bowls
I like to see my ingredients when I am mixing so these are my favorite. Others disagree but it’s about what works best for me (you) in the kitchen.Â
Stainless Steel mixing bowls
When it comes to mixing cold/warm ingredients and keeping them the right temp, the stainless steel bowls are the right choice.Â
Kitchen scale
I don’t use this as much as I should but it is instrumental in not only baking but cooking as well. I love measuring my proteins when I have a large piece that needs to be cut up.Â
Pyrex mini bowls
These make the perfect prep bowls for your mise en place (prepped ingredients). The bowls I have are actually custard bowls but your kitchen tools should be multi-functional. 😉
Multiple size sheet pans
You can never have too many sheet pans for those cookies, cakes, pies and savory dishes.Â
Cooling racks
Even if you are not an avid baker, you should have cooling racks. They are instrumental when resting steaks, pork, any type of meat, and even vegetables like baked potatoes, asparagus, etc.
Tongs
I don’t know why I didn’t think to invest and use tongs earlier in my cooking life. Tongs to flip meat, remove bones, grasp vegetables, you name it. You can never go wrong with a set of tongs.
KitchenAid Ultra Power 5 speed hand mixer
I love this mixer. It can mix dough, whip egg whites, make heavy cream, add chunky ingredients to your dough and/or batter-it can do it all with its turbo beaters. This is my favorite hand mixer that I’ve owned. It makes baking a lot easier.Â
These are the tools I use most often in the kitchen. I would be lost without them while cooking and baking. There are a few items not listed because you should have them no matter what, like spatulas and spoons, or one of my favs, the spoodle. I don’t own a spoodle but I’ve added it to my list. Are there some items I should add to my kitchen that y’all swear by? Let me know in the comments.Â
Until next time,
